Day 18 Slice of Life Story Challenge

Fellow slicers, I’m practicing some more fiction today. Writing for kids/from kid point of view is harder than I thought it would be!

On Monday, Max was riding his bike around and around in circles in the driveway.

“Max, don’t you want to take off your training wheels?” asked Mom.

“Nah,” said Max. “I like them just fine.”

On Tuesday, Max rode his bike around and around in circles in the driveway again.

“Max, don’t you want to get rid of those training wheels?” asked Mom again.

“Nah,” said Max. “I like them just fine.”

This went on every day. Max rode his bike around in circles in the driveway and his Mom kept asking him if he wanted to take off the training wheel. But he liked them just fine.

Then, on Saturday, a new babysitter came over.

“Hi Max, I’m Selena,” said the babysitter. “Want to ride bikes in the driveway?”

Max liked Selena already.

So Max and Selena rode their bikes around and around in circles in the driveway.

But then… Selena rode her bike off the driveway.

She rode her bike across the grass and around the house and into the backyard.

Whoa. thought Max. That is awesome.

So Max rode his bike across the grass and around the house and into the backyard.

Selena and Max rode their bikes around and around in circles in the backyard.

The backyard was bumpy.

The backyard had hills and lumps and holes and stumps all over.

There were parts that Max could not do because his training wheels were in the way.

Max stopped. He thought and thought and thought.

Finally, he said, “Selena, can I take off my training wheels?”

“Sure!” she said.

Now Max rides his bike around and around the driveway.

And through the grass and around the house.

And in the backyard over the lumps and holes and stumps, no problem.
