Last year, I was inspired by a student post to write about what’s in my school bag as a way to generate story ideas. Stuck for ideas tonight, and short on time, so here I go again.
What’s in my bag? (2016 version)
- Post-its of all shapes and sizes, and a range of colors
- A clipboard for taking notes of my conferences with students
- A separate clipboard for taking notes of my classroom visits and meetings
- Lots of pens
- Cough drop wrappers
- Loose change
- My writing notebooks (I have three – one for each different type of writing0
- My writing folder
- My wallet
- My new reading glasses
- Keys
- My binder of plans and handouts for the graduate course I’m teaching
- A small package of tissues
I really like this idea. I’ve never thought of using my bag as a source of writing prompts! I’ll try this myself.

I should have specified! This is what I had in ONE of my bags : ) I also use a rolling bag on wheels for all the books and other materials I take with me every day!

Oh God, I shudder to think what’s in my bag. This would make an interesting short story though for a student. I could totally get into that. Interesting, notebook filler and slice. 🙂

If I come up empty-handed sometime during this challenge, I will do a post like this. I will post a photo, too, so everyone can laugh at the mess the center compartment of my purse is.

Okay, somehow this really inspired me tonight. But, the list of things in my bag might be scarey. I think I’ll keep it a little smaller. Love it.
